(More customer reviews)Although the Elan II/IIe camera is wonderfully ergonomically designed, the BP-50 improves this aspect even more, particularly for vertical shots, but even for horizontal ones as well. The shutter release on the vertical grip is convenient, and the user still has access to the thumb wheel on the back. Unfortunately, there is no redundant main dial on the shutter release on the grip. Also, when you have CF-4 set to 1 (autofocus on the AE lock button) then it's nearly impossible to use autofocus in the vertical position (unless you have a really long thumb!). Another advantage of the grip, though, is the ability to use AA batteries with the camera. You probably could pay for the grip over time with the savings of using AAs over buying the 2CR5 batteries. And AAs are a lot more readily available than 2CR5s, should you need batteries in a bind. In summary, if most of the pictures you take are hand-held, such as sports and candid portraiture, then the BP-50 is definitely worthwhile.

(More customer reviews)When using the MB-D10 with the D300, you will find that it is a great improvement from the MB-D200 (the D200 vertical grip). For one, it is made of magnesium alloy, and is much sturdier. It is also weather sealed like the D300 body. It fits nicely and firmly with the D300. It also has an additional multi selector, which is a great added feature. The MS-D10 (holder for AA batteries) also comes in a very nice pouch. Of course with such improvement comes the price increase as well!
If you want to achieve 8fps on your D300, you can use the EN-EL4/a battery with your MB-D10 or AA batteries (8 pieces). The ability to use AA batteries is a real plus point. Imagine having a long trip where you may not have access to charge your EN-EL3e batteries. Having the ability to use AA batteries means that you can carry a bunch of them and still be able to shoot... even deep in the wilderness.
Another advantage of the MB-D10 is that it is not L-shaped, which means that you can easily slip it into your camera bag and pull it out when you need it. To mount the grip, you do not need to remove the battery from your camera and marry the grip to the camera as how the D200+MB-D200 was designed to. It does not take as much space and not as awkward as grips that are L-shaped. This is a versatility of the MB-D10, but also has some getting used to.
Here are some areas which either you like or hate or take some getting use to:
1. The battery in the camera need not be removed to use the grip. So for those who leave the grip on all the time and want to use 2 batteries at a time, it would mean that you would need to remove the grip each time you want to remove the battery in the camera. It would be nice to be able to swap both batteries without having to remove the grip, but the design is such and we would have to live with it. What I've decided to do is to remove the battery in the camera and just use the one in the MB-D10. Besides, you can get a lot more shots with the D300 than the D200 for the same battery charge.
2. The shutter release button on the MB-D10 is a bit too sensitive, which means that you can quite easily trigger the shot. The sensitivity between the shutter-release button on the camera and the grip is different, so when switching orientation of the camera, you'll need to be aware of the sensitivity so that you do not accidentally take a shot which you did not mean to do so.
3. The MB-D10 can take the EN-EL4/a battery. However, the battery chamber cover for the EN-EL4/a is not part of the package, and you would need to purchase it separately. The battery chamber cover is BL-3.

(More customer reviews)Okay battery grip for 50D, definitely not the same mold as Canon's as the seller stated. The battery door and battery holder is very flimsy... I'm a little concern to see if it can last long or not. The battery door pops in/out... wiggling around if you touch it. Not a very good seal, in case of bad weather. Maybe I got a defective one? Just not very sure about quality to recommend it to others. Since I am very careful with my camera, I may learn to live with it. Other than that, it was a very easy installation--came with everything as described by seller (ir remote, controls, etc). Shipping is very fast!
I expected them to be a better quality after reading the selling pitches in the item descriptions. O Well, if you could afford a Canon grip, go for it. It is a better mold and it is weather sealed. I know I'll have to get a Canon grip in the future since I don't think this one will last that long with the battery door being so flimsy attached.

(More customer reviews)To go with my new Canon Digital Rebel T2i, I looked around for a third-party LP-E8 battery. Yes I know the argument--"why would you put $4/$8/$10 battery in a $800 camera, it's worth it for the peace of mind to go with the genuine Canon battery," etc. Well having been using digital cameras and DSLRs for well near 10 years now, and having used plenty of third-party batteries (including "name brands" like SterlingTek and other no-name ones), I don't have any qualms about using third-party batteries. They work just as well for a fraction of the cost. Really, when was the last time you've heard of a digital camera exploding or catching on fire because of the third-party batteries?
I have a Power2000 brand LP-E5 equivalent battery that I've been using in my Digital Rebel XSi for the past two years with great results, so I wanted to get the same brand for the T2i (LP-E8). I bought it through Amazon.com's Marketplace, from a vendor called TheMemStore. They shipped it promptly, and I had it a few days later.
The battery charges fine in the T2i-supplied battery charger, and works fine in the camera. It is rated for 1,500mah capacity as opposed to the genuine Canon's 1,120mah, so in theory it should give you approx. 35% more shots per charge. As I tend to recharge the batteries whenever I return home, and not necessarily let the batteries go until they are fully discharged, I haven't really noticed a difference yet--but it certainly seems to last just as long as the Canon battery that came with the camera. The T2i seems to eat up battery power rather quickly while shooting video, so I may end up getting another one for a full day's shooting/recording. One difference between the Power2000 battery and the Canon OEM battery is the rated voltage: 7.4V for the Power2000 and 7.2V for the Canon battery. A cursory web search indicates that this is within acceptable fluctation range for the battery.
I've uploaded a couple of pictures of the battery package and the battery itself. Notice the package states 7.2V, but the battery itself states 7.4V (same as the item description).
Overall I'm pretty happy with this battery--a great value for 1/5 of the Canon battery's cost.

Combine this unit with the Power2000 LP-E6 replacement batteries and you can easily shoot 500+ images without having to recharge. Extra nice option is the AA battery carrier included so you always have a back-up.
Make sure you attach your camera strap to the bottom of the grip instead of leaving it on the right side of the camera. It stays out of your way when attached to the bottom of the grip PLUS it lets the camera hang lens down which is a nice thing.

(More customer reviews)Ostensibly, the goal of a battery grip is to extend the amount of power you have for your camera. This grip does that, but simply buying an additional battery pack (which you'll have to do anyway if you want to use the grip that way) would do the same job, wouldn't it? It would - but the grip does a whole lot more:
This battery grip transforms an already excellent camera (the Canon 450D -- or Rebel XSi as it is called in the US) into a great one. First of all, the grip is excellently designed, and people with medium to large hands like me can get a much better handle on the camera which, although nicely shaped, was a bit to small for my liking. Now, with the grip, this is transformed into a natural fit (it now feels similar to the Nikon D70, which I thought to be more comfortable to hold than the 450D). The advantages of using this grip are many:
First of all, you have double the amount of battery power available (provided, of course, you purchase an additional battery pack. The package does not contain any batteries). The grip is designed to hold one or two of the 450D's battery packs at the same time. You do not have to use two packs. If you do, the packs do not have to carry the same amount of charge, and both packs are drained simultaneously. Even better, Canon has designed the grip to house a sled-like device they call 'magazine'. This magazine holds one or two battery packs. The nice thing, however, is that it comes with a second magazine designed to hold 6 AA batteries. In a pinch, this can bridge the gap until you can re-charge the packs. Also, you can replace the magazine with an adapter to connect your camera to a normal power outlet (this is not included in the package). The magazine slides in from the left side (as seen from the camera's back), making exchanging the magazines slightly awkward for right-handed people.
The grip is designed to slide into your camera from below, replacing the battery pack (you'll have to remove the battery cover for this), and is secured in place with a screw. If there is room for improvement, then it would be here: I'd have liked a rubber environmental seal to better protect the camera's now permanently open battery housing.
The grip almost doubles the weight of the camera, making it much better balanced with many of the larger lenses (e.g. the EF 100 Macro lens). Even better, when shooting in portrait orientaton, the grip provides its own shutter, aperture, AF lock and AF select buttons as well as another selector dial. To prevent accidental use of these buttons, the grip is also equipped with an ON/OFF switch (this switch will not operate the battery power). This is in addition to the large, separately molded grip now provided for this orientation. The bottom also houses a replicated tripod socket, and a mount for the handstrap. The latter is very useful, as I have found myself shooting more in portrait orientation, and have now set up the camera to use this as the default orientation.
The few small flaws I've found are this: I would have liked the ability of the grip to be able to also provide power to my (external) flash. Even more than that I would have welcomed a charger for the whole grip. Currently, you have to remove the battery packs from the magazine, charge them separately, and then re-insert them into the magazine, then insert the magazine into the grip. Also, you have to remove the camera's battery cover from the camera -- this forces you to carry the cover with you seperately should you want to use the camera without the grip. Finally, I would have preferred a slightly better environmental sealing than the rudimentary one that is provided. All things considered, though, these are small annoyances compared to the much better handling and feel the grip brings to the camera.To sum up:
This grip truly incrases the 450D's already great features. I like the fact that I can choose to use one or two packs, and even swap them for AA batteries in a pinch. The whole assembly feels much improved, and shooting in portrait orientation has been immensely enhanced (both in feel and simplicity). I recommend this grip for anyone who wants to get more out of this camera, and especially for those who find themselves shooting often in portrait orientation.

Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for Canon Digital SLR Camera (Retail Package) Review

When over a year ago I purchased the battery grip for my 450D ("XSi) I was surprised by how much more I got out of my camera by simply adding a battery grip. It's not the fact that you have twice the amount of battery power - simply getting a second battery pack will do that, and since the grip comes without any batteries, you'll have to purchase that anyway.
No, the best thing about a battery grip is that it literally allows you to get a better grip on your camera. Now, the 7D is somewhat larger than the 450D, and thus this may not be as important to people with smaller hands. But there are more than one reason to add the grip to the 7D: it transforms this great camera into a truly outstanding one:
- first of all, the grip significantly enhances the 7D's handling. Since it is added to the bottom of the camera, it adds some height, making the camera fit your right hand much better. But that's just the beginning. The grip has near-perfect molding (at least for my hand), making holding the 7D so much more comfortable.
- I shoot lots of portraits, and the grip adds shutter button, and main camera controls to the portrait orientation. Being able to hold the camera upright comfortably alone is worth the price of this grip. Again, the mold for this orientation is near perfect.
- (this may look obvious at first, but is often overlooked) you can remove the grip. The reason why I point this out is because with the grip installed, the 7D is very similar in size to the 1D. But if for some reason size or bulk is at a premium, you can take the grip off - something that is impossible with the 1D
- The grip is by no means light, and adds almost 50% of weight to the camera. This is a mixed blessing. The added bulk is noticeable, and on longer field excursions may add some discomfort. On the other hand, it balances the camera better with many of the heavier lenses. The added bulk will prevent you from shooting single-handedly in most situations, as steadying the camera with a mounted L lens now requires significant strength. That being said, the added bulk also makes it less susceptible to small movements, something I discovered to my advantage when shooting with a (non-IS assisted) macro lens.
Energy-wise, the grip is quite cleverly engineered: you can either load one or two battery packs into the grip, and the packs do not have to be charged evenly. You can, therefore, simply take a pack from the grip, load it into the camera, and discard the grip. After a while you can then reload the slightly more drained pack into the grip, and continue shooting with the grip. You can also replace the packs with 6 AA batteries for emergencies. Be carful, though - AA batteries get drained significantly faster than a normal battery pack, and the battery display will not correctly reflect charge status when you use AA.
The grip mounts from below into the 7D's battery bay and tripod mount. The tripod mount is replicated on the bottom of the grip, so you don't lose mountability with the grip installed. Unlike the BG-E5 (the grip for the EOS 450) this grip has much better weather sealing, making me much more comfortable using the 7D in weather. Also like the E5, this grip's 'On/Off' switch does not control power but activates and de-activates the additional (portrait orientation) controls. Battery Pack are conveniently loaded from the back, and do not require a magazine like in the BG-E5. AA batteries do need to be inserted into a magazine first, though.
Although near perfect, the are some minor quibbles I've found:
- there is no way to charge the whole grip with batteries loaded. You have to take the packs out, charge them individually, and then put them back into the grip. Since you can use the grip with only one pack installed this is an inconvenienca rather than annoyance, but still...
- the grip cannot provide power to external flashes. If there is one thing Canon should improve than it is this. I do realize that this would require re-designing the grip - but having a flash feed from the grip would be a godsend, as the batteries in the flash unnecessarily increase bulk.
- the grip's shutter button seems more sensitive than the one on my 7D, causing me to accasionally shoot where I wanted to aquire lock. I would have preferred if both shutters felt the same.
- A battery charge tester in the grip that is usable without turning on the camera (or for that matter: without being installed) would be a welcome addition (the camera *will* tell you the remaining charge)
Summary:
The battery grip turns the already great 7D into an exceptional camera. Especially if you shoot portraits a lot, this grip will immediately let you wonder how you ever got by without it. Although the improvements in handling are not as dramatic as with the BG-E5 (for the EOS 450/500), I feel it is still significant to warrant purchase. As a 'bonus' feature you get the option of doubling battery power, and even use AA batteries in an emergency. As a whole, I recommend this battery grip to anyone who wants to get more out of their (already great) 7D.

Before buying this battery grip, I was searching for different type of battery grips for my Canon Rebel T1i, I looked around read many user reviews from various battery grips that were compatible with my Rebel T1i. As much as I love my camera and love taking photos, I really didn't want to invest too much on a battery grip and buy the Canon brand battery grip which is priced twice (even more at my local Camera store) as this. I also didn't want buy a battery grip that would only last me month or a week or even days.
While searching I came across the Polaroid battery grip, I was surprise and unaware that Polaroid even made DSLR Accessories and I was debating whether to get it or not more because it hasn't been reviewed by anyone and when I did a web search for product reviews I ended up with zero results. Knowing that Polaroid is a well known trusted brand I decided to take the chance and purchase the Item.
When receiving the Item, I was very surprised of the quality of the item. It does not look cheap, and you would have never have guess it's was Non-Canon brand product, because of the fact it looks identical to the actual Canon brand Battery. The Polaroid Battery Grip was very easy to attach and it flushes well with my Camera, the rubberized surface looks exactly like the rubberized surface on my Rebel. The placement of the buttons are placed in the same areas as the Canon battery grip and they actually work. The batteries are very easy to load either with standard AA batteries, or the actual Canon batteries for the Rebel, and I really like that it comes with Remote shutter Release control.
I'm very happy that I purchase this I, and I highly recommend buying this product, trust me you won't be disappointed. Because of being very satisfied of this product I would definitely look into more items that Polaroid makes for DSLR cameras, due the great quality at a low price.

(More customer reviews)I found the remote annoying. You must be directly in line with the front of the IR sensor on the unit and pointing it. There is a very narrow angle range for the remote to work. No way to do a candid shot from the side or back. You can use timer shutter to get your hand away from the front of the camera before the shutter releases as a workaround.

I would like to see it further modified to perhaps charge (cellphone batteries also because it uses charging plates) Hint Hint.

(More customer reviews)before i got the d300, i had the d80. of course, i had to get the grip for that 'pro' look. i really like how it balanced the camera, not just vertically, but it made it easier to hold from the bottom. i have fairly big hands, so this is important to me.
the d80 grip was really an optional but cool-looking accessory, but the d300 grip is more mandatory IMO. for one thing its much more solid, made out of the same mag-alloy compound as the d300. it adds some weight and bulk, but its both aerodynamic and ergonomic, so that's not a problem.
for another thing, you can keep one battery in the camera and not have to remove it to put the grip in like with the d80. that makes it much less of a hassle to put the grip on or take it off in the field.
also the battery compartment cradle is smoother, you just slide it in. okay so that last one was a pretty minor detail, but little minor details add up to great products. anyway, the shutter button is metal, not plactic, and in addition to an AF-lockbutton, there's also a multiselector for changing the focus point when shooting vertical. that's pretty cool.
even cooler is the fact that you can choose in the camera menu settings whether the grip's battery's charge first or the camera's. that means you can keep a charged battery in the camera at all times and just switch out the grip batteries. even better, the grip takes AAs. the d80 grip took AA's too, but needed 6 instead of 4, which creates logistical issues for charging, purchasing, etc. (most chargers take 4 batteries at a time and are sold in 4-packs, not two-packs)
the best part of the MB-D10, though is that by using the grip with the right batteries and a fast card, you can get 2 fps more for a grand total of 8fps with the d300 (Speed Demon alert!!!). so it's a lot more functional and less cosmetic than the d80 grip which gives you 3fps no matter what batteries you use.
this kit, which only costs twenty bucks above the grip itself includes a charger and 8 2900 mAh aa's -- worth $45 right there-- plus an high-volume airblower, a soft brush (use on lenses or the LCD ONLY -- get a dedicated sensor cleaning brush like the arctic butterfly for the sensor) and a couple of lenswipes and fluid. that's maybe another $20 if you bought it all separately
simply stated, this kit is a great deal, because you get better battery life out of NiMH batteries than an El-E4a, which you would otherwise have to buy, plus the bl-3 battery cover which nikon doesnt include gratis with the d300 or mb-d10. and you get a spare set of batteries, which is awesome. look at the cost of buying this kit over 2 En-El4a and a Bl-3 and it's pretty much a no-brainer unless you enjoy spending more money than you have to.
the charger is of the medium-cycle variety, so it takes about 5 hours to charge up the batteries to full. the cool thing is the trickle charge function which allows you to always keep a fully charged set on standby. plus the charger will work on other NiMH batteries and has an adapter plug for international use.
all in all, the grip is a winner and the kit makes it even sweeter.

(More customer reviews)I was a bit skeptical about buying an aftermarket battery grip for my new Canon EOS Rebel T2i (550D in other parts of the world), but since using it I have nothing but good things to say about this part.
I recently took a short vacation to Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota and had this grip installed for the entire three day trip. I took hundreds of photos and a lot of video. Note also that I'm not an 'old-school' photographer that likes to use the viewfinder but rather prefer to use 'Live View' screen mode which eats the batteries much more quickly. The batteries that came with the grip lasted for the first two days before running low. I had another set and was able to keep on shooting. I also like the included AA battery tray which gives you the option of powering the camera with six AA batteries (which could be a real life saver in a pinch!).
I would rate the feel, fit & finish and quality of this part to be on par with the camera itself. The plastic and grip are nearly identical to the camera. The controls function perfectly and make portrait position photos more comfortable than I've ever experienced. I have large hands and the comfort factor is the biggest reason that I purchased this to begin with as the normal landscape position is more comfortable as well.
Anyone who has picked up the T2i (550D) knows instantly that it's not a heavy camera and actually is a bit on the lightweight side. This grip with two batteries actually improves the balance by adding heft and size which can create a much better user experience.
The only thing I would caution is to consider buying the package with four batteries to allow for change-outs if you don't already have spares. That said, I highly recommend this product over the $170 OEM grip from Canon (which doesn't include extra batteries) and even if you don't have the spare batteries you can get by on AAs if you need to.

I've now been using this battery grip for about four months and still have nothing but good things to say. The rubberized 'grip' has held up well with no noticeable signs of wear. The battery life hasn't seemed to have diminished with time and use. There have been some negative comments by other users but I still stand by my original comments.

This part has continued to hold up well. The only thing I've noticed is that the printing on the grip by the buttons has worn somewhat as opposed to the printing on the camera itself which has held up with no noticeable wear. Clearly the manufacturing process at Meike is not up to the same level as it is at Canon. That said I have enjoyed flawless performance from this part and it hasn't left my camera since I received it. The batteries have held up equally well.

(More customer reviews)I did a lot of research before I purchased this item, however; there were no reviews on it as it relates to the D5000. The only thing I could ever find is the manufacturer claiming that it fits the D5000 or someone elses review of it for a different camera (D40/D60.)

I'm just getting back into the SLR frame of mind for photo's and I knew a battery grip was one thing I wanted. The lack of a NIKON grip for the D5000 nearly kept me from purchasing the camera but the D5000 was really a great entry into the dslr arena, so I bought it and the OPTEKA battery grip.
The OPTEKA grip does fit the NIKON D5000 but it's not a perfect fit. The "tray" that the bottom of the camera is nestled in when they go together is just "slightly" larger than the bottom of the camera. A person who isn't a camera entheuiast probably wouldn't notice and from a small distance it's not noticable but things like this usually bother me! Don't get me wrong, it's not a loose fit, the grip fits tight and there is no slop, it's just that the small raised lip around the top edge of the grip is "slightly" larger then the bottom of the camera! It's not really an issue but consumers need to know this because this may bother some people! The outer demensions of the grip are virtually identical to the outer demensions of the camera and the look and finish of the grip are pretty much spot on!
When you hold it, it feels similar to the D5000. It appears to have a similar build quaiity to the camera body. It doesn't add any significant weight to the camera except for you now have two batteries instead of one. This product also comes with a battery cradle that holds six double A batteries so if you get in a pinch you can buy new batteries virtually anywhere! I havn't tried this out yet!

I was also worried about taking off the cameras battery door to install the grip but that was very easy, it just snapped right out! They even have a slot in the grip for you to put the battery door in so you don't lose it!
Installation was a breeze. You just gently remove the camera battery door (instructions come with grip) and slide the electronic contacts (male) into the battery receptacle (female.) Then you turn a thumbwheel that turns a bolt (1/4") that screws into the area on the bottom of the camera where you usually attach a tripod and you're done. It's a tight solid fit and it all feels like one piece! The grip also has an area on the bottom of it where you can attach a tripod (1/4".) It all feels very good in my hands!

After about a month of use I highly recommend this product for anyone who has a D5000. Overall the benefits of this product far outweigh the fact that it may actually have been produced and intended for a "slightly" larger camera. It is a wonderful product that I am very happy with and it adds to my enjoyment of my D5000.
I can't comment on the vertical shutter release as I personally have no interest in this feature as of yet.
