(More customer reviews)I've had this charger for almost a month now. I bought this charger simply because the one that came with my laptop died, I was in finals week, and I needed something fast. While the product description states "manufactured by HP," I am almost 100% sure that this is a knock-off. It comes in a nice little box that isn't HP either. Many of my friends also own HP products and the difference between the real and not is clearly visible when you put them side by side. The plastic material of the adapter box is definitely different from a real HP one and it just looks more flimsy too. I guess you get what you pay for.
I have a HP pavilion dv6t laptop and the charger so far has been doing alright. I'd say this is a pretty satisfactory charger if not for two things:
1) There is a really loud, high-pitched "current" noise whenever it is charging the battery. It gets to be pretty annoying.
2) The connection joint between power box itself and the power cord is very loose. I've had my laptop die on me many times now only because the power cord came out form the adapter box. This too is somewhat of a nuisance as you have to basically leave the adapter box and power cord both on a flat surface with plenty of excess cord space on each side.
Also, on a (possibly) unrelated note, since I have started using this charger about, my battery manager has indicated that I need to replace my battery. I'm not sure if this is because of the new charger or the fact that my battery has finally approached the end of its lifespan, I'll leave that for you to decide.
Overall, I give this product a 3 stars because it get the job done: charge my laptop.

Same price for a generic one from an electronics store. Then I found another one here at Amazon for $12. And, finally, I came across this one for less than a dollar. The price disparity was so great that I was inclined to be suspicious of its quality, but for less than a dollar I was willing to risk it. It works just fine. As noted by another reviewer, the cord is just a little on the short side, but I have found it long enough to reach over the steering wheel from the cigarette lighter to the lower left corner of the windshield in my 2003 Toyota Rav-4. I've only needed to use it a single time since the purchase - but so far, so good.

(More customer reviews)I was elated after finding this replacement adapter at such a low price. However, the adapter does not work properly in my DV4-1431us laptop. The laptop will not power on when the AC Adapter is plugged in by itself, and will only send power in short, one-second bursts when the laptop battery is plugged in. (And will not charge the battery.)
The adapter will work perfectly in an old Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, so I know it is not defective.
Despite the title of this product suggesting it can replace model number 463958-001, it does not appear to do so, or at least with this specific laptop. If you have this laptop, DO NOT BUY this product, as it does not work properly.
UPDATE: After getting an official adapter from HP, I can confirm that the problem was not with my laptop. This adapter is not compatible with the DV4-1431us laptop.
