Timer/Alarm/Backlight are really just a travel alarm function and not related to charging. Huge size - much bigger than a TekCharge MP1550. Does charge batteries as advertised but its not great.

eneloop USB Charger (2 AA) Review

(More customer reviews)Despite what the name may suggest, this eneloop USB Charger (2 AA) can be used to recharge any brand of NiMH cells - not just eneloop. It can also recharge 1-2 AAA cells - not just AA. It is a 'smart' charger that monitors the status of each cell independently, so there is no danger of over-charging the cell.
Unlike a stand-alone charger which needs to be connected to an AC outlet, this charger (MDU01S) draws its power from the USB port of your laptop or PC. That's why it can be made so tiny, and you never have to search for yet another AC outlet. The down-side is that: since the power available from an USB port is limited, its charging current is relatively low. If you put just one AA cell in it, the charging current is 850mA. That means it takes about 2.5 hours to fully recharge one 2000mAh eneloop cell. But if you put two cells in it, the current drops to 450mA each. So now it takes nearly 5 hours to fully recharge 2 eneloop AA cells.
One physical limitation of this charger is that: in order to recharge AAA cells, you have to flip the positive (+) terminal down. That makes it impossible to recharge one AA and one AAA at the same time.
Another concern is that: once your laptop goes into low-power standby or 'sleep' mode, its USB ports may be turned off, which means the charger will also stop working.
If, like me, you always travel with your laptop computer, then the MDU01S makes a very nice travel charger. Otherwise, you may want to consider the Sanyo eneloop MDR02 as a stand-alone travel charger.

SANYO Eneloop Spacer Packs with 2 AA with 2 D-Size Spacers Review

(More customer reviews)The two rechargeable batteries in this package (SANYO Eneloop Spacer Packs with 2 AA with 2 D-Size Spacers) are the best-quality low-self-discharge NiMH cells currently available. The two spacers are made of high quality plastic without any rough edges, and they looked great. The price is also very reasonable. So normally I would call this a good deal. However, if you intend to use them in appliances that accept D-cells, please beware of the following limitations:
1. The capacity of each eneloop AA cell is just 2,000mAh. In contrast, capacity of a typical alkaline D-cell (such as the Energizer E95) is rated at around 20,000mAh when delivering a low current of 50mA. For a larger load current of 500mA, its capacity drops to around 10,000mAh. Still, this is five times the capacity of eneloop AA cell. What this means is that: you need to remove and recharge your eneloop cells five times more frequently, compared to when using alkaline D cells.
2. The base of the D-spacer is hollow. It uses the negative terminal of the AA cell for contact. The battery compartment designed for normal D-cells typically have much larger springs, so the base of the AA cell may fail to make contact with the spring. Check the picture I uploaded to the Customer Image section, and you'll see what I mean. This problem can often be solved by inserting a copper penny or nickel between the battery base and the spring. But it does not always work.
There are some other rechargeable D-cell options available. For example, consider the Rayovac Platinum LSD NiMH D cells. This package is currently priced similar to the eneloop package, but it gives you two real D-sized cells, with 50% higher capacity (3000mAh vs 2000mAh). The down-side is that you'll need a battery charger that can handle D-cells.
If longest run time is your first priority, then consider buying full-capacity D cells such as the 9500mAh IMEDION D Rechargeable Batteries. Those are priced 3-4x higher, and you need an expensive charger that can handle full-capacity D-cells. (Most low-cost chargers cannot fully recharge cells with capacity over 3000mAh)
No matter which option you pick, using rechargeable batteries will save you money in the long run. You just have to know your batteries' limitations, and set your expectation accordingly.

AccuEvolution Low Self Discharge NiMH D Cells Review

(More customer reviews)I almost did not buy these batteries 1 year ago based on a review criticizing their size (too long or so). In the end I bought a set of 8 AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT THEIR SIZE IS NOT A PROBLEM based on my experience.
I use a battery charger that does not use springs to recharge these batteries(POWEREX MH-C808M BATTERY CHARGER AA AAA C D NiMH NiCD), and I have NO PROBLEMS placing the battery in the charger. The advertised capacity is correct and they are indeed very low self discharge.
Sure Eneloop AA are great SANYO eneloop 4 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries(I own quite a few of them and couldn't be happier), but they drain fast if your application requires D batteries and it's a pain to recharge them on a weekly basis.
Previously I used AA Eneloop with their D size adapters, but I started to get annoyed about having to replace/recharge batteries almost every week.

THESE BATTERIES ARE WITH IN SPEC.
I measured my AccuPower D batteries and they are about 59.6 mm. The ANSI spec call for 60.5 mm +/- 1.0 mm (not 61.5 mm). Therefore, the battery should measure between 59.5 mm to 61.5 mm. This makes the battery with in spec!

In response to a comment I remeasured these batteries stacked using a Stanley 30' Powerlock measuring tape. I did this because I do not have a caliper and my previous measurement may be off compared to a caliper measurement.
The premise is that if the batteries are too long, then stacking them will make the length problem obvious even to a measuring tape. Here are the results:
1) I staked four cells and measured again as best as I could with my measuring tape and got almost exactly 9.5 inches or 241.3 mm which translates to 60.325 mm per battery.
2) Next I staked eight cells and did the same thing. I got about 19 3/16 inches or 487.3625 mm which translates to about 60.92 mm per battery.
3) Next I staked twelve cells and got about 28 10/16 inches or 727.075 mm which translates to about 60.59 mm per battery.
The measurements were not caliper quality but I got a measurement range between 60.325 to 60.92 inches. This new set of measurements puts Bill King and I about 0.875 to 0.28 apart. Note Bill King, my previous and new measurements are all with in ANSI spec though.

(More customer reviews)As a professional photographer and environmentalist, I simply have to use rechargeable batteries, or I'd be throwing out AA's in large quantity.
In the past I've been unhappy with rechargeable batteries, they eventually held less of a charge and when stored, simply ran low and failed me when I needed them most.
These are simply the best AA's that I've used. I have lots of standby equipment.. strobes, back up cameras and associated equipment. I need things to work at full power for the longest possible time. The eneloops have a long shelf life once charged and this is very helpful.
Another plus, is that with photographic equipment, I was able to take far more photos on a single charge and my off camera strobe has a much faster cycle/recovery time than expected with rechargeables.
They are heavier than copper top AA's, I actually weighed them to compare... just an interesting fact. My aux battery holder uses 8, strobe uses 5 and the MBD-10 from Nikon uses 8, so battery weight plays. But the performance has become all I care about... that, and the fact that I'm not throwing away batteries after ever big event shoot.
I also appreciated that they arrived fully charged in their pack, so opening a new pack doesn't mean waiting to charge them prior to putting them into service.
I can't vouch for how they perform in other devices, but can certainly endorse them for photography.
Long shelf life, rechargeable, top performer...
